Update and Solidworks Tutorials

Hey all,

Just a quick heads up on some events happening on CAD Training Blog over the next couple of weeks and months.

Firstly, I will be releasing the 2008 CAD Elite in its entirety for everyone to view. I have made this decision as I believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn AutoCAD as easily as possible. I believe releasing this course will help to do this.

The second announcement today is that in the next several months I will be posting Solidworks tutorials. I love Solidworks and now believe it is THE program for mechanical designs and drafting. More news on this to come!

If you want to be one of the first to know once these come out then head over to our Facebook Page and like us for updates.

Flatshot Command (2D from 3D) – Basics of 3D Modelling

Watch it in Fullscreen HD for all its glory.

The flatshot command in AutoCAD basically gives a 2D view of any 3D model you may have drafted. This comes in handy when creating drawings of your 3D model or just to show detail. This is one of the “niftier” commands in AutoCAD 3D modelling and should save you a lot of time trying to get drawings. Enjoy!

Using the Chamfer Command – Basics of 3D Modelling

Watch it in Fullscreen HD for all its glory.

The chamfer command in AutoCAD serves a similar purpose to the fillet command covered in previous videos, however, instead of adding a radius to the edges this command adds a “slope”.

This command comes in useful for many woodwork models but also for many other design types. It is just as easy to use as the fillet command but does have some traps to look out for. Click play on the video to learn the taps and master the chamfer command.

Using the Fillet Command – Basics of 3D Modelling

Watch it in Fullscreen HD for all its glory.

The fillet command in AutoCAD is used to add a radius (round the edges) of your 3D model. This is usually good practice, not only is a radius stronger (depending on the application) but it is cleaner, visually more appealing and more practical (won’t slice you open). It is a very simple command to use in 3D and saves you all that time drawing arcs in 2D.

Get a Mayan Sun Stone before the world ends!

Mayan Sun Stone

Mayan Sun Stone

After recently reading the new Dan Brown book “The Lost Symbol” I was entrigued about the concept of December 21st 2012. Now, I do not believe the world will end but it is a fascinating read.

Well, just when it was on my mind who else should post about it but Shaan Hurley from Between the Lines.

I found his post (and drawing) such good fun I thought I would share it here. Make sure you go grab your free Mayan Sun Stone drawing before the world ends.

Have a great, and sunny, day.
